Manual Therapy

Manual therapy techniques are employed by occupational and physical therapists via skilled hands on methods to the joints or soft tissues which are used to facilitate increased tissue extensibility, reduce capsular adhesions and restrictions, decrease inflammation, promote relaxation of muscular spasms, and increase overall mobility. Some techniques utilized by our therapists include:

  • ASTYM®

  • Mobilization/Manipulation

  • Myofascial techniques

  • Trigger Point Dry Needling

  • Cupping

  • Kinesiotaping

  • Edema management

  • Scar tissue mobilization

  • Strain counter-strain

ASTYM®

Elevate Rehab has the only ASTYM® certified practitioners in Fremont County, and there are only 6 others in the entire state of Wyoming.

Astym® Therapy is a stimulation of the body’s healing response, which results in the remodeling and resorption of scar tissue and the regeneration of tendons. It’s fast, consistent, and non-invasive, and works without medications, needles, or surgery. Get long-term results with short-term therapy at Elevate Rehab, even when other treatments have failed.

Only Astym®-certified clinicians may perform the Astym® treatment.

Conditions that may be treated by ASTYM®:

  • Low Back Pain (non-radicular): Cervical pain: radiculopathy; migraines

  • Lower Extremity: Plantar fasciitis, chronic hamstring or groin injuries, tendinopathies Achilles tendinopathy, anterior and posterior tibialis tendinopathy, chronic ankle pain and stiffness, hamstring strain, IT band syndrome, jumper’s knee, patellar tendinopathies, trochanteric bursitis

  • Upper Extremity: Carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic wrist pain and stiffness, DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis, golfer’s elbow/medial epicondyle tendinopathy, tennis elbow/lateral epicondyle tendinopathy, rotator cuff tendinopathy/repairs, AC joint pain, bicipital tendonitis, trigger finger, fractures

  • Other: Post-mastectomy scarring, post-surgical scarring/fibrosis, diabetic injection site fibrosis, and post-trauma scarring, sprains, strains, and other acute and sub-acute soft tissue injuries, arthrofibrosis

Dry Needling

Our certified Dry Needling practitioner has the most experience in the Lander area.  Trigger point dry needling is a treatment that uses a solid filament needle to treat neuromuscular dysfunction and other soft tissue injuries. Treatments consist of inserting a small dry needle into a dysfunctional region of soft tissue, or a “trigger point”, to lessen tension on surrounding structures.

The majority of patients do not experience pain with dry needling, however do notice a “twitch” response of the muscle as it relaxes. This allows for greater circulation of the blood to promote healing, decreases pain of adjacent joints to improve mobility, and decreases irritation on nerves that may be overly sensitive due to injury.

Results of dry needling can be immediate for many patients. Many will notice increased soreness over the next 24 hours that will subside as the region heals. Dry needling also allows you to perform your daily activities as you normally would have prior to treatment with no need for rest.

Conditions that may be treated by dry needling:

  • Muscle pain

  • Joint pain

  • Headaches

  • Low back pain

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Achilles tendinitis

  • Golfer’s elbow

  • Tennis elbow

  • TMJ pain

  • As well as a variety of other diagnosis

Cupping

Cupping treatments consist of applying cups to restricted tissue and applying a negative pressure to pull the tissue upward rather than a downward pressure or shear pressure applied with traditional massage or myofascial release.

The upward pressure applied to the soft tissue then produces an increase in circulation, relieves tension in the muscles and fascia, and can break up scar tissue that has formed in the area to promote efficient healing in a large area. Cupping can produce a bruising effect over the treated area, although this varies from patient to patient and does subside quickly.

Conditions that may be treated by cupping:

  • Back pain

  • Tendinitis

  • Neck pain

  • Headaches

  • IT band syndrome

  • And much more

Kinesiotaping

Kinesiotaping utilizes an elastic adhesive tape to improve activation of muscles, decrease muscle tension, promote increased activity and blood flow promoting tissue healing, and even decrease swelling in areas of injury. By using the natural movements of the bodies muscles, tendons, and joints kinesiotape can be used to aid in stabilization of joints and improve motion in conjunction with traditional therapy interventions.
